About Melpadom
Attumalil Georgekutty Award

The “Melpadom Attumalil Georgekutty Awards” were instituted on 02 May 2000 by Melpadom Attumalil Mr. A. V. Jones alias Georgekutty, under an endowment named “Melpadom Attumalil Georgekutty Endowment,” which is entrusted with the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. The Merit Award is an esteemed philanthropic endeavour with a noble vision to honour illustrious personalities renowned both nationally and internationally in the fields of science, technology, medicine and peace, every year.

Mr. A V Jones

Mr. A. V. Jones, who instituted the award, was born in Melpadom, a village in Alleppey District, Kerala State, India. After completing his education, he migrated to Singapore in the year 1953 and worked there in different capacities till 1994. Mr. Jones has always been interested in, promoting scientific and technical studies and was also helping bright children among weaker sections of society to continue their studies, particularly in the field of scientific research. He is a philanthropist and has set up apart a substantial portion of his savings towards these charitable purposes. The purposes of setting up the endowment were the following:

Grant of awards to worthy individuals who have achieved unique and outstanding success and made significant contributions in the field of Medicine, Science, Technical Sciences, Science and Technology, and Peace, irrespective of caste, creed, sex, or colour. The Merit Award consists of Rupees One lakh (Rs. 1,00.000/-) and a Citation.

Grant Awards to Young Scientists who have achieved unique and outstanding success and made significant contributions in the field of Medicine, Science, Technical Sciences, Science and Technology, and also Scholarships to deserving students, irrespective of caste, creed, sex, or colour. The Young Scientist Award consists of Rupees Fifty Thousand (Rs. 50000/-) and a Citation.
