His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the supreme head of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Kerala was in Ahmedabad, Gujarat to mark the beginning of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the Ahmedabad Mar Thoma Church on 24th July 2011.
In the afternoon His Grace was accompanied by Rev. Daniel Mathew, vicar of Ahmedabad,Rev. Jobi Koruth, Vicar of Gandhinagar and Dr. Sam Mathew,to meet Mr.Narendra Modi, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat and to thank the Head of the State for the hospitality offered to the community for over five decades and for the considerable progress in the work of the community and its members in Gujarat.
The Mar Thoma Metropolitan received a very warm welcome, as a State Guest with escort, at the Chief Minister’s residence in Gandhinagar, the state capital. Both the leaders had a very cordial discussion as the Metropolitan shared his experiences as the Head of various social organization in the Asia- Pacific region, reconstruction work for the earthquake hit Gujarat and agreed with each other strongly on peaceful resolution of conflicts and acknowledging coexistence for all as the only way forward for humanity. The Chief Minister also thanked the Mar Thoma Church for her interventions and engagements during the various disasters in India and around the world.
